FamilySearch & Ancestry Have Learned to SHARE!

Being a Service Missionary for FamilySearch is so exciting! I've been privileged to help people from the UK to Uganda, the Bermuda Islands to Australia.  One of the fun learning experiences we have when we talk to people from all around the world is finding they have the same learning curve as anyone here in the States. We are pretty much all the same over the phone... Of course when they speak English they have a bit of an accent...unlike myself. I don't have an accent at all, of course! :)

The other fantastic benefit of serving is getting to see the changes to FamilySearch and their partners before most anyone else. After all, we can't help you figure it out if we don't know what has happened, right? Unfortunately I can't give you a heads-up on up and coming changes until they are announced to the world, but as soon as changes are shared with the world-at-large I'll be free to share them here and on my Facebook page, AncestorEbooks.

With that in mind, here are some fantastic changes that happened just this past week....

Remember when-- the only way to move names, dates, places and sources was to put two browser windows up on your screen, side by side. That is as old now as the rotary dial phone!

Oh, my Goodness, have they learned to share! Check this out…

We are all familiar with finding a source on Ancestry, but until just the other day, when you wanted to put the Source on FamilySearch you had save the Source, then find the Citation, so you could fill out the form on FamilySearch.

Now, if you have connected accounts, you can compare what you have in Ancestry with what Sources and information you have on Ancestry.com with what you have saved at  FamilySearch.org.    ..........It’s just fabulous!
If you don’t have a marriage date in Ancestry, just click the radio square next to the date or place and save the changes to FamilySearch.

Did you just find a huge stack of sources from the New FamilySearch Collections, such as the 10 Million -/+ records that were added to New York Passenger and Crew Lists in October?

Want to share these sources with partners who have access to a Family Tree on Ancestry? Just go to the correct person's Profile page on Ancestry, Click on the list of links to the right of the little FamilySearch tree and choose "Compare" person on FamilySearch.
From here you can move information between your FamilySearch and Ancestry trees by just checking the boxes next to the information you want to transfer.

Then with just a click-&-save it is moved to Ancestry! That was amazing, but then they went one step further and created something that makes saving Sources so much sweeter...

It's called the Fly-Out and from here you can add all these sources to the whole family!

Want to see how it works? Follow this link to FamilySearch.org/blog You'll find out all about Fly-outs about half way down the page. See you there!
